Melwood is a dynamic nonprofit that creates jobs and opportunities to improve the lives of people with disabilities. For nearly 50 years, Melwood has been helping people with disabilities to work, live and play in the greater Washington DC area. Melwood’s large site needed an overhaul to make it an effective tool for users looking to donate cars or cash; find jobs, or find more information about the programs offered through Melwood’s outreach programs.
Orases met with Melwood’s team to determine Stakeholders for the process, as well as their graphic design partner SmithGifford to come up with a system which would support its mission of employee recruiting and fund development. Together, this team created a plan supported by specification and process documentation to execute a fully overhauled CMS with flexibility, user access control, and to fully automate the donation process. The new site was to meet the company’s strategic objectives to provide information for prospective donors to give; for prospective employees to apply, and to reinforce the brand’s essence in the Washington DC region and beyond.
Orases and SmithGifford provided a web presence with an updated, compelling visual design and information architecture that focuses on the needs of the target audiences; showcases the unique strengths and diversity of Melwood, and provides a web experience on par with other job providers. The fully redesigned CMS offers controlled users the flexibility to maintain and control the site independently.
Melwood now has access to control and maintain the site entirely; from user roles and permissions to content. This flexibility has streamlined content management and optimized web traffic with Google Search Engine Optimization. Also, the client has seen increased donations of both cash and cars, and has seen an overall increase in web traffic.
