Case Study: Rotary Club of Carroll Creek

Rotary Club of Carroll Creek

Situation

Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is a nonprofit organization based in Frederick, Maryland.  With their motto being “Service Above Self”, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

The Club is affiliated with The Rotary Foundation, a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders.  It is a membership based organization; members of Rotary clubs are known as Rotarians, and they provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

Rotary Club of Carroll Creek’s wanted to update their website with a fresh, new look and increased functionality that would provide their members better access to information, and better showcase for the community of Frederick County what projects and events were on the horizon.

Consultation

Orases and Jean Peterson Design conducted a series of meeting with members of Rotary Club of Carroll Creek’s Website Committee to determine how to make their visions of a new website reality.  Once the vision was laid out Orases created a functional specification documenting the requirements for the site, and Jean Peterson Design gave life to the vision by creating a brand new design for the site.

Solution

An online, member centric website with the primary function of providing information, and coordinating plans and organization of the club’s events was developed from the ground up to address the client’s specific needs.  The site was given a new look and feel, designed with an easy-to-use navigation system providing existing members, potential members, and individuals of the Frederick Community interested in the club’s events and projects quick access to the information they desire.

New features were added to the site, including public access to the calendar of events, a blog module to announce new projects and programs as well as a categorized archive of such blogs, and a link to their most well-known annual event – Oktoberfest.  Access to social media sites were implemented throughout the site so that visitors and members alike could stay connected to all the news and happenings of the club.

The member-only area of the site was upgraded with a new member dashboard to display the most important information at login, an ability to add more information for individuals in the member directory, a new automated functionality so members can download the member directory, and an organized document management system.

Implementation of Orases’ 24Watch® Business Suite, a content management system, grants access for the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek to manage the content of their site using a simple, efficient, and consistent interface.

Results

The site launched on January 3, 2012.  Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is managing the content of their site.  They’ve already posted blogs on many weekly programs and other recent projects, have posted upcoming events in their calendar, organized committees, uploaded documents, and members are actively updating their information in the directory.  Further results are to be determined, based on the Google Analytics measurements over time.
